The Unofficial UN Fleet Roster
The UN Fleet Roster is patterned closely after the NATO/US fleet rosters
of the 20th century. By coincidence, the NAC fleet roster was also patterned
closely after the US fleet roster of the 20th century (this was mostly because
the US had a larger number of ships than the UK or Canada did at the time)

UN Notes II:
- Purpose of this roster is to allow for quick pick-up games, using a given
force with a given point value.
- It is assumed, unless otherwise noted, that the ships assigned to a given
Squadron or Squadron are essentially FleetBook ships or a variant thereof (any
variants may need to have their point values checked). This is just for ease
of play so others can use this roster if they so desire.
- While the UN has access to slightly better technology than the Major
Powers or other governments in the GZG Universe, not all their ships are
so outfitted with this technology upgrade. Part of this is economics, part
of this is to delay the inevitable that the information/materials will fall
into the hands of the other governments (which would put them more on par
with the UN, and thus weaken the UN's in reality tenuous 'superior' force
which keeps the other Powers in check). There are several avenues that this
technological advancement presents itself:
- Pulse Torpedo technology (already acquired by the NAC)
- Heavy Beam weaponry
- Equivalent of Strong Hull for the Mass of Average Hull but at 5x cost
- Extra-range weapons, which extend out 6 additional mu than normal (cost
= 5x instead of 3x Mass)
- Superior Sensors (very few of the other Powers have access to Superior
Sensor suite s at this time; the NSL picked some of this up from an 'acquired'
UNSC ELINT ship)
- Cloaking devices (though the other Powers are working on this!)
- WaveGun/Nova Cannon (recent technological breakthrough, rare to see
unless Kra-Vak war presses too strongly into human space)
- CLs and CEs are assigned in Destroyer Squadrons as CLs are seen as Large
Destroyers (or Destroyer Leaders, or 'capital ship' destroyers), and the
CEs were included to offer some anti-missile/anti-fighter protection for
some squadrons. As not all squadrons would necessarily be sent to areas
prone to fighter/missile attacks, not all squadrons have been assigned a
CE (or grouping of CEs).
- BCs are assigned to Cruisers-Destroyer groups as BCs are considered Command
Cruisers or 'capital ship' cruisers.
- Just because a given Squadron or Squadron is assigned as it is, this does not
preclude the commander of the force from having the option of subdividing
his forces as the situation requires. Nor does this preclude the addition
of other elements temporarily attached to said Squadron or Squadron. (ie, the
above lists are excellent guidelines for quick-look points for groups of
ships, but feel free to add/subtract as the situation/scenario calls for!)
- Patrol squadrons are generally sent to a sector of space, then usually
split up into one or two-ship components for patrol duties in that sector.
Patrol squadrons are usually made up of destroyers and light cruisers in
low-threat regions, and usually are heavy cruisers to battleships in
high-threat regions (the higher the threat, the larger the ship(s) sent).
Ship Design Notes:
The UN has a number of their own ship designs, in addition to having ships on
'permenant loan' from the other powers in the GZG universe. Some of these
'loaner' ships are standard FleetBook ships, others have been slightly modified
with the UN's slightly more advanced technology levels. The same applies to
the UN-specific ships: some use straight FleetBook design rules, some use
slightly more advanced tech levels in their design schemes.
BDN-Elint Stealth Electronics Warfare ship GUARDIAN is a design almost
exclusively the domain of the UN (the NSL had somehow acquired the design notes
and materials to build one similar ship - though w/out the cloaking field).
It's specialized electronic warfare package and sensors enables these vessels
to be one of the few which can detect cloaked ships with reasonable accuracy,
in addition to doing extremely long-range yet highly accurate scans. It is
enabled with a cloaking system to reduce the chances of it being detected
itself, but if it is detected, it does have an array of weapons and a
fighter squadron that will allow it to defend itself. These ships are usually
used as a long-range surveillance vessels near 'hot-spots' around the major
governments, and rarely come into contact with enemy forces (the three times it
has the enemy were destroyed to a ship; thus no real intelligence on these
ships exists in the other governments, except for the NSL, who are keeping
their mouths shut on the matter - partly so they can have the "I
know something you don't'" stance, and partly so they don't have the UN
coming down on their heads in a hard way about their having a similar
ship.

The only Guardian class ship to ever be lost was on an extended
surveilance patrol on the far side of NSL space late in the year 2182. The
circumstances of its demise remain a mystery, though after some investigation
the UN had decided the NSL were not involved.
Ships in class: GUARDIAN, SENTINEL, NEXUS, PROWLER
DDH - The UN liked the idea of a mass-attack destroyer so purchased
two dozen of the TUFFLEY DDHs from the NAC for use in their fleet. A
half dozen of these were 'upgraded' with the new hull tech advancements for
better survivability (and are noted with a '*').

DDL - The UN messed around with the idea of cheap, relatively fast,
ship-killer destroyer/frigates. This met with mixed success for the most part
(but since the UN rarely found itself embroiled in war, full-blown 'testing' of
these little ships in heated combat was a rarity). These funky-shaped ships are
nominally designated 'light destroyers', although they are more heavy
frigate-sized than 'destroyer' sized.

Ships in class:
CVS - The KALI class strike carrier is the UN's fast-response
combat carrier/cruiser. It is designed to go toe-to-toe with cruisers and still
spit out a decent fighter compliment to quel the opposition. Typically the
KALIs will have one fighter squadron outfitted as heavy fast or heavy
long-range interceptors, with the other two being either heavy fast or heavy
long-range standard or attack fighter squadrons, depending on the mission.

CH - An older ship, the EMMONS-WINTHROP class cruisers are one
of the standard workhorse cruisers of the UN fleet, and can be found almost
everywhere under UN jurisdiction. These are standard anti-ship ships, and while
not supremely fast, have sufficient defences to go head-to-head with almost
anyone of comparable size/mass. They are scheduled for upgrading/refitting with
some of the new technological advances within the year.

CT - The POINT class cutter is an older UN vessel that
is still in service today. It is a slightly heavier corvette than what the
other Powers generally field. It is usually used for in-system patrols of
the Core/Inner Worlds, in anti-piracy or customs patrol roles, though they
have seen some action near the borders of the Major Powers, resulting in the
large number of losses when they've found themselves attempting to halt
confrontations of units many times more massive than themselves. While old,
this is still a proven class and the UN continues to produce more units.

FF - The CAPE class is the UN's heavy cutter, and has been
around for a number of years. Like the POINT class cutters, these are
usually used for Core and Inner World patrols, but it is not uncommon to
encounter one or two performing 'port of call' duties in the Outer Colonies.
It is more massive than most of the Major Power frigates, though the NAC
TACOMA does rival it.

CW - The ANTARES class warcruiser is an experimental warship that
carries the incredibly powerful wavegun cannon. The existence of this
class of ship is not well known outside of a select few in the UN Navy. The
few times other have encountered it had ended in their not reporting home
again.

(armed assault lander) - The FORT class assault lander is one of
the UN's premiere combat troop carrying ships. Whereas most troop transports
are little more than freighters hauling GROPOS from one place to another,
the FORT class ships are beefed up with a few weapons for some limited
defensive/offensive firepower.

(heavy scout) - The COUNTY class scout is one of the UN's 'front action'
vessels when monitoring 'hot spots' between the various powers. The UN utilizes
the slight technical advantage they currently enjoys over the other powers in
that these ships spend the Mass equal to having a Weak Hull but they get the
integrity of having an Average Hull. This is the only ship class of this size
that the UN uses this technical construction advantage on.
